Khi tường thuật orders, requests, offers và advice, sách dùng mệnh đề to-infinitive sau reporting verb. “Sit down and stop interrupting” trở thành “The club leader told/ordered Mark to sit down and stop ...”. “Could you show me ...?” trở thành “I asked my teacher to show me ...”. Lời khuyên dùng advised me to take up; lời đề nghị dùng offered to pay; đồng ý dùng agreed to pay. Mệnh lệnh phủ định dùng not to: “Mark’s mother told/warned him not to stay out late.”
