Present participle and past participle clauses

The grammar section reduces related clauses using participles. “Learning about the impact of global warming, we decided to save more energy” uses a present participle clause. “Encouraged by our teacher, we started some environment projects” uses a past participle clause. The textbook also rewrites “We were given enough information ..., so we started our report” as “Given enough information ..., we started our report.” Learners connect each participle clause logically to the subject of the main clause and distinguish active from passive meaning.
